Сначала надо определиться с версией программы. Доступны следующие варианты (перечислены по времени выпуска, начиная с самой старой):

Movie Maker не видит видео
Из официального источника можно скачать только последний вариант, однако он же и самый худший из всех. Возможности его крайне невелики. Но элементарный ролик с наложением музыки и текста в нем «сваять» можно. Также можно записать видео с веб-камеры.
Достаточно ли его нехитрого функционала для ваших нужд, решайте сами. Кроме того, еще один минус этой версии в том, что установить его можно только на Виндовс 10. Если хотите установить именно его на свой компьютер, то откройте приложение Microsoft Store и введите в строку поиска слово «киностудия». Будет найдено одно приложение – оно вам и нужно.
Для загрузки приложения необходимо нажать «Получить».
Установочный файл классической версии Виндовс Муви Мейкера (2.6), которая полюбилась пользователям еще со времен Виндовс Виста, можно скачать по этой ссылке.
Дистрибутив Windows Movie Maker v. 6.0 вы найдете, перейдя по данной ссылке.

Once downloading is complete, double click on the file called «wlsetup-all»

The first option during installation asks whether to install Windows Movie Maker only, or all of the Windows Live Essentials software package. This includes software like Messenger, Mail, Writer, OneDrive and the Outlook Connector Pack.
If you choose to install Windows Movie Maker only, click on «Choose the programs you want to install» and select «Photo Gallery and Movie Maker»
Click on «Install» and your installer will install the files into your system.

Once your installation is complete, you will see the following screen. Click close and you can now launch Windows Movie Maker!
Look for the Windows Movie Maker icon in the start menu and start making movies!

I desperately want to load Movie Maker. I have input files I’ve developed that I can’t run for some reason on the laptop I have Movie Maker on. So I am trying to get Movie Maker on a separate dedicated laptop using Windows 7. Unfortunately the file did not load. I tried several times and tried loading all Live Essentials and just Movie maker. Any help out there.

Thank god for this. Whatever Windows did to the video editing software is atrocious and I still use Movie Maker for simple edits. Also don’t try filmora, iirc it puts a massive logo over the edits and also it is impossible to uninstall. I recently reset my PC to free up space due to the amount of trash files taking up space over the years and one of them was Filmora. It was always listed as taking 500 mb of space in my programs list and I couldn’t fully uninstall it or figure out where the hell those leftover files were.

Atrocious version. The Microsoft mandarin who redesigned this must’ve been drunk. Ditch this and try the excellent Filmora — a user-friendly video editor that’s faithful to simplicity of the XP Windows Movie Maker.
I was able to download & install. When I open the program it errors file/video project and won’t let me sign in without closing down the whole program. no error codes just won’t allow access to the program. The project is uploaded but with a yellow triangle exclamation point icon. Thanks anyway. I used to use the program and created over 50 videos which now won’t playback on my Windows 11 PC. I was hoping that downloading this archived version would allow me to continue working a familiar program. Doesn’t seem to work with Windows 11 🙁

It is sadly not working for me, it will download up to 36% then crash with the error code 0x800c0006, I followed the instructions you provided with this error code and matched the languages of my computer top the downloader to make sure and even after resetting and retrying 5 times it still wont work 🙁 Please Help!!

I had this on an older computer. I think I have the complete file. How can I install it on my new hp running win 10.

I get a BLUE POP UP saying THIS APP CAN’T RUN ON YOUR PC. try another version. I have Windows 10 Pro. I install Netframework beforehand. I had this installed OK on my previous Win 10 Home edition so I don know what’s changed?’

This is still the top-rated movie maker and video editor in terms of ease of use. Conversion services are an option, but it is very important to create what you want in your own local environment.
I prefer to watch social science videos, but most of the time they are useful in audio form, so I use windows movie maker to extract the audio and listen to it on my mp3 media player. It’s very convenient.

My bad. The program works great. Movie Maker was in the Start Menu. just had to scroll down further. Rookie mistake.
Apparently my original post didn’t make it. I downloaded and installed successfully (??) Windows Photo Gallery and Movie Maker. However, there is no icon for Movie Maker in the Start Menu or anywhere else. I didn’t get any error messages during the installation. Has anyone else run into this issue and found a solution?

You have to change your language to english usa to install. then when finished change it back to english uk 🙂

This program wont install for me, it just says couldn’t install these programs.
I downloaded the program today onto my new computer running windows 10 and so far it is running perfectly. I have yet to see if it uploads ok, but I am confident it will. It does look a little different but I am used to seeing it on windows 8. I am so thankful you are doing this as I have tried a few of the newer movie making things and they are too hard for me to learn. I have used this program for about 15 years before they stopped supporting it.

Not working to me
I used the original Windows Movie Maker that I downloaded in 2010-2012 and this is a different program. Totally different look and feel. I doubt it’s legitimacy unless Microsoft totally redesigned the program after 2012. Even if it is real, some functions do not work and it often gives an error message that a perfectly good video clip can’t be added to a movie because a codec is not available. That never happened with the original Windows Movie Maker.
This is my new laptop. No issue with the downloading. I`ve been using Movie Maker for many years and it works fine with me. And by the way there`s nothing to do with Microsoft sign in. Overall, ten stars!
Moviemaker downloaded on windows 10 64bit, had to download Netframework 3.5 or something that. Thanks for keeping this going it saved hours of work.

I’ve completed everything until I get to sign in with live messenger. Failed to connect, check firewall to make sure it’s not blocking Windows Live Messenger. I checked, firewall is allowing it to go through. Any suggestions?

After the first download I got the «Couldn’t install programs — an unknown error occurred: Error 0x800c0006» message. I looked it up and apparently this problem has to do with a language difference between the program (which was the English version) and my Windows (Dutch). So I checked again and saw that I also could download the Dutch version, which I did.
After that, the installation went fine and Moviemaker is running perfectly. Thanks!
Not working on my computer. The pictures in the videos has mirror effect and the time line/movie line blurred.

Sadly, this download did not work for me.
It seemed to install, but, when I try to use it, (after craeating a desktop shortcut) it reads, «The item MovieMaker. exe that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly. Do you want to delete this shortcut?».
I’m currently running Win8.1.
Please point me in the direction of a safe download that works.

Downloaded ok but can’t find the .exe file.
This download is the official Windows Live Essentials 2012 Package, offline installer version. «wlsetup-all.exe» is a safe legit program. After download, if you Right Click, select properties, you can view the Digital Signature» from Microsoft. This Live Essential package, which includes Windows Live Movie Maker, was offered as a free addition to Windows by Microsoft. Microsoft no longer provides a download from their website, but many who did download the offline installer when it was available, make it available, such as from here. NOTE VERY IMPORTANT, you must have Microsoft .NET 3.5 installed for Movie Maker to run. Those here who complained it does not work need to install .NET 3.5

When my Movie Maker in the original package came as part of the computer base files. («C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery») it is still in there but has messed up graphics and strange multi-video when I try to open a video file. and also my Photo Gallery has change the start screen whenever I try to open picture slide process. so do just try to put Movie Maker back from another computer that is showing it properly or do I delete Movie Maker from the Photo Gallery file and then what. very confusing. if I take the download . where will it put the «new» Movie Maker? ..I will it go Photo Gallery and try to replace?
